What is the Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) test?

The Better2Know BUN test is a blood test that measures how much urea nitrogen you have in your blood. Urea nitrogen is a waste product that your body makes as it breaks down protein. BUN is tested as an indicator of kidney function and health.

This blood test will tell you if you have low, normal or elevated levels of BUN in your blood.

Who is the BUN test for?

This blood test is for men and women who are worried about their kidney health and function. Urea Nitrogen is filtered out of your blood stream by your kidneys and then excreted in your urine. This BUN test will give you a good indication of how well your kidneys are functioning.

Low levels of BUN can be an indicator of liver disease, that you eat a very low protein diet or that you are over hydrated from drinking too much water.

High levels of BUN may be an indicator of kidney problems, dehydration, or that you are eating a very high protein diet. High levels of BUN can also be an indicator of heart failure

What does the BUN test include?

The test includes your appointment, blood sample collection, 24/7 results reporting and a doctor's consultation if your BUN levels are out of range.
