About this test

This test measures total cholesterol, HDL ('good') cholesterol, non-HDL cholesterol (a stand-in for 'bad' cholesterol) and triglycerides, the standard non-fasting lipid profile used to help assess cardiovascular risk. The provider notes it does not measure or calculate LDL cholesterol, since an accurate LDL result needs a fasting sample, which it does not require for this test.

Within our 18-test cholesterol and lipid comparison group, this is the cheapest option at £29, against a group median of £49, though most peers, including Medichecks (£39, six markers) and London Medical Laboratory (£39, seven markers), test more markers for a little more money. Monitor My Health's own Healthy Heart Test (£39, five markers) adds HbA1c to the same lipid markers.

Scores are led by value for money, with clinical depth held back somewhat by testing fewer markers than the comparison group's typical six.

Who is it for?

This suits anyone who wants a basic, no-fasting cholesterol check at the lowest price in our comparison group. If you also want a diabetes risk marker alongside cholesterol, the provider's own Healthy Heart Test (£39) adds HbA1c for £10 more. If marker count matters more than price, London Medical Laboratory's Cholesterol Lipid Profile (£39, seven markers) tests more for a similar cost.

How it works

You take a finger-prick blood sample at home, with no need to fast, and post it Monday to Thursday. Results are typically available within 1 to 2 days and reviewed by a doctor, with guidance on lifestyle changes or a GP referral if your results suggest higher risk.
