About this test

Vital Duo combines two Stride tests: a 110-gene DNA and methylation panel covering genes such as MTHFR, COMT, APOE and FTO, and a blood test covering over 70 markers across metabolic health, hormones, inflammation, cardiovascular risk and nutrient status, such as HbA1c, hsCRP, testosterone, oestradiol, thyroid function and vitamin D.

Its combined 180 biomarkers are the highest count in the comparison group of health checks with over 50 markers, above the group median of 82.5 and above Randox Health's RanChip Insight 360 (160 markers, £495), which costs more despite covering fewer markers. Vital Duo's £460.85 price is about 13% above the group's median of £407.50, and it is more expensive than Medichecks' and Blue Horizon Medicals' panels, as well as Stride's own single-test options, Optimal Bloods (70 markers, £399) and Vital Stack (70 markers plus a supplement, £356.85).

Clinical depth scores at the top of the scale given the marker count. Clarity and documentation score well, since the full biomarker list, sample types and collection methods are published. Value for money scores moderately, since the price sits above the group median despite the high marker count. Results and follow-up scores low because results are not reviewed by a doctor as standard.

Who is it for?

This suits you if you want both genetic and current blood-based health markers in a single order, alongside tests with over 50 markers generally. If you only need one type of result, Stride's standalone DNA and methylation tests or its Optimal Bloods and Vital Stack blood tests cover each area for less. If marker count for the price matters most, Randox Health's Everyman/Everywoman Complete tests (£416, 95 markers) sit between the two on both counts.

How it works

You provide two samples: an at-home cheek swab for the DNA component and an at-home venous blood draw carried out by a visiting phlebotomist. Turnaround is described as 7 to 10 working days across the two components. A 1:1 consultation with a Stride expert is included. Results are not reviewed by a doctor as standard.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • 180 combined biomarkers, the most of any test in this comparison group
  • More markers than Randox Health's RanChip Insight 360 (160) for less than its £495 price
  • Covers both genetic and current blood-based health markers in one order
  • Includes a 1:1 consultation with a Stride expert

Cons

  • About 13% above the median price for health checks with over 50 markers in this comparison group
  • Turnaround runs slightly longer than a blood test alone, at 7 to 10 working days
  • No doctor review of results as standard
