About this test

This is Better2Know's broadest instant screen, checking six infections in one visit: HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhoea. It uses a blood sample for the first four and a swab for chlamydia and gonorrhoea, and sits in the standard STI screen comparison group covering four to seven infections, where its six markers match the group median.

At £495, it is the most expensive test in that comparison group by a wide margin. Forth's Full STI Home Test Kit checks the same six markers for £129, and London Medical Laboratory's Male and Female Advanced Screens, also six markers, cost £179 and £189. Even the four-marker kits in the group, such as LloydsPharmacy's at £59.95, cost a fraction of this price. The gap reflects the instant, staffed clinic format rather than a postal test.

Clinical depth scores well since six markers matches the group's typical size. value for money scores poorly given how far above the group median this sits. Results and follow-up score lower because a doctor does not review the result as standard. Better2Know is CQC registered, holds a 4.2 Trustpilot score from 775 reviews, and has been trading since 2008.

Who is it for?

This suits someone who wants the broadest same-day STI check Better2Know offers and is willing to pay a large premium for speed and an in-person appointment. If price matters more, Forth's Full STI Home Test Kit covers the same six infections for £129, and London Medical Laboratory's Advanced Screens cover six markers for £179 to £189, all well below this test's £495.

How it works

A blood sample, usually by finger prick, is taken for the HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and syphilis checks, and a swab (from the vagina or urethra) for chlamydia and gonorrhoea. Testing happens in the clinic while you wait, with Better2Know stating results are available within around 30 minutes, and you receive a signed results report on the day. Positive chlamydia or gonorrhoea results come with a same-visit prescription; reactive results for the other four infections get free confirmatory lab testing rather than a standard doctor review of every result.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Checks six infections (HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhoea) in one visit.
  • Result given on the day, in around 30 minutes, rather than sent later.
  • A positive chlamydia or gonorrhoea result comes with a same-visit prescription.
  • Reactive results for HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C or syphilis get free confirmatory lab testing.

Cons

  • At £495, this costs far more than other six-marker screens, including options from £129 to £189.
  • Results are not reviewed by a doctor as standard.
  • Only available at select clinics in person, not as a postal home kit.
