This kit covers 18 biomarkers: kidney, liver, bone, cardiac and thyroid profiles, a lipid profile, a full blood count with a five-part differential, ESR and CRP for inflammation, a Lp-PLA2 test linked to cardiovascular risk, HbA1c for diabetes, uric acid for gout risk, ferritin for iron status, chloride, vitamin D, a urine test for infection, a stool test for hidden blood linked to bowel cancer risk, and HE4, a marker sometimes used alongside other tests for ovarian cancer risk. Together this gives a broad annual snapshot across several organ systems rather than a focus on one condition.
Against the 32 tests in its comparison group, its 18 biomarkers sit right at the group median, which supports a strong clinical depth score. Price is where it falls down: at £499 it costs far more than the £113 group median, and several peers match or beat its depth for a fraction of the price, including YorkTest's Essential Health Check (£55, 18 biomarkers) and Blue Horizon Medicals' Fingerprick Wellwoman (£82.25, 20 biomarkers). This gap is the main reason it scores poorly on value for money despite scoring well for clarity, with a full biomarker list, stated turnaround and clear collection details.
The remaining scores reflect collection and follow-up. A nurse takes the venous sample and you also provide a urine and stool sample, which are posted to the lab, with results in two working days; a clinic-based version is also available at £695. Results are not doctor-reviewed as standard, which is the main reason it loses marks on results and follow-up. Trust signals reflect a 4.2 Trustpilot score from 775 reviews, CQC registration, and 18 years trading.
Who is it for?
This suits you if you want a broad annual health check spanning kidney, liver, bone, cardiac, thyroid, diabetes, iron and vitamin D markers, plus bowel-cancer-risk and ovarian-cancer-risk markers, and you would rather have a nurse take the sample than attend a clinic.
Before booking, it is worth comparing depth and price with peers we track: YorkTest's Essential Health Check tests the same 18 biomarkers for £55, and Blue Horizon Medicals' Fingerprick Wellwoman tests 20 biomarkers, including some this kit does not cover, for £82.25. Better2Know's own clinic-based version of this same test costs £695. Choose this nurse-kit version if you specifically want HE4 and the other markers in this exact combination and prefer not to attend a clinic.
How it works
A nurse visits to take a venous blood sample, and you also provide a urine sample and a stool sample; these are posted to Better2Know's laboratory for analysis. Results are ready within two working days of the samples arriving. You view your results through Better2Know's online patient area, and the patient services team contacts you once they are all ready. Results are not doctor-reviewed as standard, though Better2Know says it can arrange a private doctor consultation if any levels are abnormal.
