About this test

This is the nurse-visit version of Better2Know's Well Man Screen, covering the same 14 areas of health from one blood sample: kidney and liver function, a lipid and cardiac profile, thyroid hormones, full blood count and inflammation markers, prostate-specific antigen, ferritin, uric acid, chloride and bone markers. These are commonly used together to build a broad picture of organ and metabolic health rather than to test for one specific condition.

At £145, this is £100 cheaper than Better2Know's own clinic version of the identical panel, and it still sits above the £113 group median (+28%). Its 14 markers are slightly fewer than the group median of 18, and Blue Horizon Medicals' Fingerprick Wellman offers more depth (20 markers) for less money at £82.25.

The scores are the same shape as the clinic version but value for money improves once the £100 saving is factored in: clinical depth and clarity remain strong, value for money is middling rather than poor, and results and follow-up scores only moderately because results are not reviewed by a doctor as standard.

Who is it for?

This suits a man who wants the same broad 14-marker panel as Better2Know's clinic Well Man Screen but would rather have a nurse visit at home than travel to a clinic.

If depth matters more than convenience, Blue Horizon Medicals' Fingerprick Wellman covers more markers (20) for £82.25, and YorkTest's Essential Health Check covers 18 markers for £55, both well below this kit's price.

How it works

A nurse visits you to take a venous blood sample, which is then sent back to the provider's laboratory for analysis across the 14 marker groups in the panel; a clinic-based version of the same panel is also available for £245 if you would rather attend in person. Results are typically available within about a day of the sample reaching the lab and are accessed through Better2Know's online patient area, with a Patient Services team member also getting in touch once everything is ready. The provider does not state that results are reviewed by a doctor as standard, though a private consultation can be arranged afterwards or you can take the results to your own GP.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • £100 cheaper than Better2Know's clinic version of the same 14-marker panel
  • Nurse comes to you, so no clinic visit needed
  • Same one-day turnaround as the clinic version once the lab has the sample

Cons

  • Still £32 above the £113 median for its comparison group
  • Blue Horizon's Fingerprick Wellman covers more markers (20) for less, at £82.25
  • Same lack of doctor review as the clinic version
