What can a blood test tell you about your long-term health?

A home blood test can measure a range of factors that affect your longevity (long-term health) - like your nutrient levels. You can also understand your risk of developing conditions like heart disease, kidney disease, and type 2 diabetes.

What's covered in this blood test?

Liver profile: The health of your liver is a good indicator of your long-term health. Poor liver health can lower your immunity and increase the inflammation in your body. This increases your risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, and kidney disease. Alcohol, carrying excess weight, an unhealthy diet, and certain medications can affect how well your liver works.
Vitamin D: Vitamin D is essential for long-term health as it's needed for healthy bones, muscles, and a strong immune system. If you have sarcoidosis (an inflammatory disease) or a condition that affects your parathyroid glands (these regulate calcium in your body), it's best to work with your doctor and get specialist input.
HbA1c (diabetes risk): HbA1c (glycated haemoglobin) measures your average blood sugar levels for the last 3 months. Your HbA1c levels can help indicate your risk of pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes.
Cholesterol (lipid profile): This cholesterol profile measures your total cholesterol,LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides - fats in your blood. The balance of total cholesterol:HDL and triglycerides:HDL are useful predictors of your risk of heart disease.
Vitamin B9 (folate): Folate is essential for your long-term health. Optimal levels are linked to a lower risk of heart disease and cancer and better long-term health.
Omega-3 & 6: Higher levels of omega-3 fats are linked with a lower risk of heart disease and better long-term health. Getting the right balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fats is also really important.
